Detroit crews.
Detroit work.
WUD is where Detroit's film and video crew find work, and where producers find the people to shoot it. One place to get hired, sign the deal memo and get paid — instead of a group chat, a spreadsheet and an invoice nobody answers.
Sign-up takes about two minutes with your mobile number. It costs nothing to join or to be listed.
The welcome video is on the way
A two minute walk through the app is being cut now. Until then, everything it covers is written out below.
What WUD is
The whole job, in one place
Detroit has the crews. What it has not had is one place where the work and the people find each other, and where the hire actually closes. WUD is that place, built for this city and nowhere else.
Find the work
Crew calls from producers shooting here, with the rate on the table before you apply.
Find the crew
A directory of local crew by department, position, gear and the days they are free.
Close the deal
A work-for-hire deal memo both sides e-sign, payment held by WUD, a deposit up front and the balance at wrap.
For crew
Get hired for what you actually do
- A profile that shows the work. Your department and positions, credits, demo reels that play in the app, three photos from set, and your kit list.
- Your rates stay yours. Only a producer with a live crew call can see them. Other crew never can.
- Apply at your rate, or bid privately. On blind-bid roles the producer sees the number, not your name, until they choose to look.
- Credits that are proof. Work booked through WUD is verified, and reviews stay sealed until both sides have written one.
- A deposit before you start, the rest after wrap. The producer pays for the whole job up front, 30% reaches your bank as soon as they do, and the balance follows when the job is confirmed done.
- Say when you are busy. Mark the days you are working, and producers searching a date skip you instead of calling at midnight.

For producers
Crew the shoot without the phone tree
- Post a crew call in minutes. Roles, rates, shoot days and location — local crew see it straight away.
- Hire on evidence. Verified credits, double-blind reviews, and badges a person reviewed, not a checkbox.
- Plan and budget first. Build the crew you need against Detroit standard day rates before you commit.
- One signed deal memo. Work-for-hire terms both sides e-sign, with the PDF kept for both of you.
- Call sheets and timecards. Send the day to your crew, approve the hours, and the overtime carries straight into wrap.
- Rebook your people. Save a crew you liked and ask them onto the next job in one tap.
How it works
Four steps, start to paid
Sign up
Verify your mobile number and say what you do. Free, and about two minutes.
Match
Crew apply or bid on calls. Producers post, search the directory and shortlist.
Sign
Terms become a deal memo you both e-sign, and the producer pays into WUD.
Shoot and get paid
A deposit on payment, then call sheets and timecards, and the balance lands in the crew member's bank at wrap.
Built on trust
Nobody here is anonymous
- Every member verifies a real mobile number.
- Detroit Local and Detroit Approved badges are reviewed by a person at WUD, not granted automatically.
- Contact details stay private until a booking is paid for.
- Reviews are double-blind and only from people who actually worked together on WUD.
- Report or block anyone, any time, and a person reads it.
- Prefer to work under a name that isn't your legal one? Ask WUD for an alias — your legal name stays private, and only shows on the deal memo and for payment.
What it costs
Free to join. 3% when you work.
Making a profile, posting crew calls, applying, bidding and messaging all cost nothing. WUD takes a 3% service fee from each side only when a booking is actually paid.
Producers paying by credit card also pay a card surcharge, shown before you pay. Crew payouts go through Stripe to your own bank account.
No subscription, no listing fee, no charge for being found.
Questions
Before you sign up
Who is WUD for?
Film and video crew working in and around Detroit — camera, lighting and grip, sound, production, art, hair and makeup, post, stunts and safety — and the producers, production companies and agencies who hire them. Every department has a place on it, not just camera.
Do I need to be union?
No. Union and non-union crew are both here, and you say which on your profile so producers know what they are hiring.
Is my phone number or email shown to anyone?
No. Contact details are released only when a booking is paid for, and only to the two people on that booking. Before that, everything goes through messaging in the app.
Can other crew see my rates?
No. Rates are readable only by producers with a live crew call, and that is enforced on the server, not just hidden in the app.
How do I get paid?
The producer pays the whole engagement when the booking is signed. 30% of your pay reaches your bank as a deposit straight away, and the balance once they confirm wrap, both through Stripe. WUD is not your employer or your tax filer — you are engaged as an independent contractor, and Stripe issues any 1099 for payouts it makes.
Is there an app for my phone?
WUD runs in any browser right now, and installs to your home screen. The iPhone app is on its way to the App Store.
