Privacy policy
WUD is operated by Coattail Entertainment LLC. WUD is a network for Detroit film crew and producers to find each other, hire, get paid and build a verified record of their work. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and how you control it. The short version: we collect what hiring and paying people needs, we keep private things private, and you can delete your account from inside the app.
What we collect
- Account: your mobile number, which we verify with a text message code, and your date of birth, which we use only to check you are 18 or older. Your date of birth is visible only to you.
- Profile: your name, photo, neighborhood, roles, departments, specialties, bio, links, reels, certifications, availability and chat setting. Other members can see your profile.
- Private details: your email address, the address you give at sign-up, and your day rates. Your address and email are visible only to you. Your rates are visible only to you and to producers while they have an open crew call.
- Work on WUD: crew calls you post, applications and bids, booking offers and terms, signed deal memos, credits, and reviews.
- Signatures: when you sign a deal memo we record the name you typed, the time, your network address, your device type, and a fingerprint of the exact document you signed, so the signature can be relied on later.
- Messages: conversation requests and messages you send to other members, and messages you post in a live room's chat.
- Live rooms: when you join a room your voice is carried live to the other people in it. WUD does not record rooms and does not keep the audio. We keep who was in a room and when, and the chat messages posted in it.
- Casting, if you act: your submissions to casting calls, the self-tape videos you upload, and the character you read for. A producer who posts a casting call can see the submissions to it.
- On set: call sheets a producer publishes to you, and the hours you submit on a timecard.
- Memberships: if you subscribe to a paid membership, which plan, whether it is active, and Stripe's record of the subscription. If you reveal a member offer code, we keep that you revealed it, so an offer can be limited to one per member.
- Referrals: if you join with an ambassador's code, we keep which ambassador referred you, so their commission can be worked out.
- Payments: handled by Stripe. WUD never receives or stores your full card number. We keep the card brand, last four digits, whether it is credit or debit, and amounts. If you are paid through WUD, Stripe collects your identity, tax and bank details directly; WUD stores only a reference to your Stripe account and whether payouts are set up.
- Support and safety: support conversations, reports you file, and verification requests.
- Devices and diagnostics: a push notification token for each phone you turn notifications on for, and error reports when the app hits a problem (the error, the screen you were on, your device type and app version).
We do not use advertising trackers, sell your information, or track your location. Your service zone comes from the address you type, not from GPS.
Mobile information and text messaging
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing with subcontractors who provide support services, such as customer service, is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
Your mobile number and your consent to be texted are used only to send you the messages described in our text messaging terms. We do not sell them, rent them, or pass them to anybody else for marketing. You can withdraw consent at any time by replying STOP to any message, or from Notifications in the app.
On-set needs and accommodations
You can save what you need on set — things like a quiet place to take a break, a seat during long setups, food you can safely eat, or a scene you will not do. Some of that touches on health, disability, religion or personal safety, so it is handled differently from everything else on WUD:
- It is entirely optional. You are never required to fill any of it in to use WUD, apply for work, or be booked.
- It is never on your public profile. Other members browsing WUD cannot see it.
- You choose when it is shared. It goes to a producer only when you attach it to a particular booking, and only to the producer on that booking.
- You do not have to say why. Nothing asks for a diagnosis, a condition or a document, and you should not put one in.
- It is not used to sort or rank anyone. WUD does not use it for search results, matching, recommendations or reputation, and producers cannot filter or search members by it.
- You can take it back. Remove an item at any time, or remove it from a booking. Deleting your account deletes it.
WUD staff can see it only when you ask us for help with it or a report is filed about it. What a producer does with it is covered by the terms of service: they must keep it confidential and must not use it to decide who gets hired.
How we use it
- To run the app: showing profiles and crew calls, matching crew and producers, and delivering messages and notifications.
- To keep hiring fair and safe: keeping blind bids anonymous until a producer reveals them, reviewing verification requests, acting on reports, and preventing fraud.
- To keep bookings on WUD until they are paid: messages are checked automatically for phone numbers, emails, handles and links before they are delivered, and a message containing them is not sent. WUD keeps a count of how often this happens to an account and what kind of detail it was, never the text of the message.
- To process payments, payouts, refunds and disputes through Stripe.
- To calculate reputation: ratings, verified jobs and completion rates are computed from completed bookings and published reviews.
- To fix problems and improve the app.
Who can see what
- Other members see your public profile, your verified credits and claimed credits, published reviews about you, and crew calls you post.
- Producers see the bids and applications on their own crew calls, and the submissions and self-tapes sent to their own casting calls. A blind bid shows the bidder's rating and verified jobs, not their name, until the producer reveals it.
- Vendors offering a member discount see the code you reveal when you use it. They do not receive your name, number or email from WUD.
- An ambassador who referred you is told that a referral subscribed and what they earned. They are not shown your profile, contact details or anything else you do on WUD.
- The other side of a booking sees your phone number and email only once that booking has been paid through WUD.
- WUD staff can see account details, support conversations, reports, verification requests, bookings and payments to run the service and resolve disputes. Staff cannot read your messages with other members, and cannot sign in as you.
- Service providers process data for us under contract: Google Firebase and Google Cloud (hosting, database, sign-in, notifications, error reporting), Stripe (payments, payouts and memberships), Dropbox (storage for casting sides, self-tape videos and signed deal memos), Agora (carrying the live audio in rooms), and Apple (push notifications). Stripe's use of your information is also covered by Stripe's privacy policy, and Dropbox's by Dropbox's privacy policy.
- We share information with authorities only when the law requires it.
Keeping and deleting your information
You can delete your account from Profile in the app at any time. Deleting removes your profile, photo, rates, contact details, date of birth, availability, on-set needs, devices, claimed credits, conversations, room chat messages and support conversations, and cancels any booking offers not yet signed by both sides.
Self-tapes you sent to a casting call stay with that casting call, because they were sent to a producer who was entitled to receive them. Ask us and we will remove them.
Some records are kept because they belong to other people as well or because the law requires them: signed deal memos and their payment records, verified credits on completed bookings, published reviews, and reports about conduct. Stripe keeps its own records of payments and payouts as required by financial regulations.
Your choices
- Edit your profile and rates at any time.
- Choose who can start a conversation with you, and block any member.
- Turn push notifications on or off, by kind, from the Notifications screen.
- Add, change or remove your on-set needs at any time, and choose which bookings they are attached to.
- Cancel a paid membership at any time from the billing portal in the app.
- Ask for a copy of your information, or ask a question about it, at support@wudetroit.com.
Security
Access to data is enforced on WUD's servers, not only in the app, and tested. Connections are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting you, we will tell you.
Age
WUD is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger.
